Catholic Foundation awards 38 grants totaling $150,221 across the Diocese for 2012
By Kathleen Tillman,
executive director
The Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation is pleased to announce its 2012 grant recipients. Forty-five different organizations throughout the diocese submitted requests for funding. The Foundation was able to award 38 grants totaling $150,221 to a wide variety of recipients. $61,644 was distributed to 38 different groups, the largest number of grant recipients in Foundation history.
The Foundation’s largest endowment fund is for diocesan vocations, which received $88,577.
The Catholic Foundation relies exclusively on private support. It receives no funds from the diocese itself or the DMF Campaign. The Foundation’s mission is to encourage spiritual and material growth by providing financial assistance for needs that exceed parish and diocesan resources.
The Foundation awards grants in four categories. Seminarian education and formation is the cornerstone of the Foundation. This remains the Foundation’s single largest grant amount each year. It is projected that the diocese will have 10 enrolled seminarians, five projected seminarians and four diaconate candidates and aspirants. These funds will be used for the cost of education.
The diocese’s four catholic elementary schools will share $10,500 for 2012 in the Catholic Education category. Humanitarian Concerns accounted for $13,000 of grants including $3,000 to Catholic Charities of Pueblo, and $3,000 to Grand Valley Outreach in Grand Junction. The fourth category of parish, mission and program assistance made up the remaining $31,144. These grants answered a wide variety of needs including; $2,700 St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Rocky Ford to purchase textbooks for their pre-k through adult religious education program and $1,500 to Sangre de Cristo Parish in San Luis for a new speaker system in their church to name a few.
Grant awards will be presented at all six individual deanery meetings scheduled for the fall of 2012.
